NUESA REACTS TO INAPPROPRIATE POSTING OF PROSPECTIVE ENGINEERING CORPS MEMBERS TO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS
“We the Nigerian Universities Engineering students(NUESA) write to vehemently condemn the nature of the National youth Service Corps(NYSC) posting of Engineering students in Nigeria to Secondary schools and Primary schools. This act is not only undeserving but also counter productive to the aims and objectives of the program undergone in our different institutions, as Engineering profession is a practical based profession, only a provision of work and field experience can enhance the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom which can be reached by posting of Engineering students to the institution that corresponds to the degree awarded in their different institutions.
We also call the notice of NYSC management to the fact that teaching is a profession on it’s own and the skills necessary for effective teaching are acquired in various faculties in different institutions for the specific purpose of teaching. Posting Engineering students to teaching in secondary school and Primary schools is like dragging the technological future of this our great country into quagmire of problems and which has recently be tag by the COREN as “Wrong training of Engineering graduates”.
The time has come for us to wake from our slumber and with the cooperation of the necessary associations. The technological development of this country is our priority and we say No to posting of Engineering graduates as corpers to Secondary and Primary schools again!”.
NUESA REACTS: POSTING OF PROSPECTIVE ENGINEERING NYSC CORPS MEMBERS TO SCHOOLS
“A round peg is meant for a round hole” We plead you to change the course of this posting as we the incoming youth corpers (Otondo) have vowed to completely dissociate from it until the right thing is done.
Thank you very much for your anticipated cooperation as we await your favourable response before the end of the camp.
Aluta continua victoria ascertain…..”
